
Early Life
Paxton Patterson was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 15, 1946, the only child of Lois (née Houchin) and Robert “Bob” Patterson. His father was an engineer and his mother was a homemaker. Patterson’s parents divorced when he was four years old, and he was raised by his mother. Patterson was an average student in grade school and did not excel in sports. He was shy and introverted as a child, but he developed a love for music and the arts.
Patterson began playing the piano at an early age and later took up the guitar. He was also a member of his school’s glee club. Patterson released his first solo album, Paxton, on the A&M Records label. The album was not a commercial success, but it did receive some positive reviews from music critics. Patterson continued to write and record music over the next few years, but he did not achieve any significant success until 1981, when he released his second album, Shooting Star. The album’s title track became a top-40 hit in the United States, and the album itself was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
